Terrifying video shows balls of fire shoot from plane as it desperately tries to abort Boston takeoff

A Swiss International Air Lines flight heading to Zurich aborted its takeoff at Boston Logan International Airport on the evening of Tuesday evening, September 16, after flames shot out of an engine while on the runway. Footage streamed live on the âLogan in Flightâ YouTube channel shows SWISS Flight 55 gathering speed before flames and smoke burst from its an engine on its right wing. The pilots then slowed the aircraft down, eventually coming to a stop, while leaving a cloud of smoke behind them. The video then shows multiple emergency vehicles arriving and the aircraft being turned around to be brought off the runway. The Federal Aviation Administration said it briefly paused some arrivals to the airport before the plane taxied off the runway and that it would investigate the incident.

Swiss International Air Lines flight 55 was departing for Zurich Tuesday evening when flames suddenly burst out of the plane’s right engine as it gathered speed on the runway.

The pilot immediately slows the plane to a complete stop before it left the ground, leaving a plume of smoke behind, video shows.

Emergency vehicles promptly responded to the scene within minutes.

Logan Airport ordered a temporary ground stop until the plane taxied to a gate under its own power, WHDH reported.

Swiss Air Lines said the passengers were put on another flight about five hours later.

No injuries were reported.

The FAA is investigating the incident.
