A crazed Connecticut man who threatened construction workers at a new Amazon facility was found with a World War II-era mortar at his home, forcing neighbors to shelter in place for several hours, according to police.
Donald Baltronis sparked panic in Enfield after he first threatened “violence toward workers at the new Amazon facility jobsite,” according to the Enfield Police Department.
He “was initially unwilling to speak to officers but eventually agreed to allow officers a limited entry into his home solely for the purpose of our taking possession of firearms inside the home,” police said.
“When inside, officers observed what appeared to be at least one WWII-era mortar round inside the home.”
Cops also found eight guns as well as knives and ammunition, WFSB reported.
Baltronis’ home was immediately evacuated, and residents within 500 feet were ordered to shelter in place.
The Connecticut State Police’s Bomb Squad eventually determined the mortar was harmless.
The shelter-in-place order was later lifted around 12:30 a.m., several hours after the initial call.
Baltronis was arrested and charged with breaching the peace.
It was not immediately clear how — or why — he threatened workers at the Amazon site.
