Brian Walshe sentenced to life in prison without parole for killing wife Ana, dismembering her

Judge Diane Freniere called Walshe’s decision to cut up his wife’s body after killing her on Jan. 1, 2023, “barbaric” as she hit him with the maximum sentence.

The sentence was handed down after the court heard an emotional victim impact statement from Ana’s sister, Aleksandra Dimitrijevic.

“Losing my sister, Ana, so unexpectedly has altered our world in ways we never imagined,” Dimitrijevic said. “I struggle with the grief that comes without warning, hoping every morning that this is all just a terrible dream.

“The most painful part of this loss is knowing that her children must now grow up without a mother’s hand to hold,” she added. “They now face a lifetime of milestones, big and small, where her absence will be deeply and painfully felt.

“Ana will never be forgotten. We will carry the light of her life with us forever.”

The grieving sister also described Anna as an “innocent, remarkable” woman who lifted the lives of all the people around her.

“Ana will never be forgotten. We will carry the light of her life with us forever,” Dimitrijevic said.

Ana’s three children also wrote a letter to the judge, but she did not reveal what they said.

Walshe was convicted earlier this week of first-degree murder in Ana’s killing.

He had admitted he did dispose of her body, but claimed he didn’t kill her, and that she mysteriously died in her sleep.

Ultimately, the jury didn’t believe that argument and convicted him on all counts.

Along with life in prison, Freniere also sentenced Walshe to 19 to 20 years in prison for lying to police, with another two-and-a-half to three years for disposing of his wife’s body.

“That sentence is immensely appropriate and just, given your murderous acts and the life trauma you inflicted on your own children,” Freniere told the court.

The judge also reprimanded Walshe for the lies he told police as they investigated Ana’s disappearance, saying he wasted “thousands of hours of investigative resources.”

Ana, a mother of three, disappeared on New Year’s Day 2023, with prosecutors arguing that Walshe killed her, dismembered her body, and threw away the remains across several dumpsters.

Walshe opted not to testify during the high profile trial, and his defense called no witnesses.
