An escaped 17-year-old Louisiana inmate charged with attempted murder was turned in to the authorities by his own parents after three days on the run.
Kimmy Dauntain Jr. slipped out of the hands of Juvenile Justice officers while on an escorted trip to a relative’s funeral in Franklin Friday afternoon, the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office said.
The fugitive’s parents gave him up to Louisiana State Police Sunday morning, according to a press release from the Office of Juvenile Justice.
Dauntain’s taste of freedom was brief, having lasted just over 42 hours, before he found himself back in lockup.
“Dauntain was located and is back in custody,” the sheriff’s office crowed in a Facebook update.
Dauntain was being held on multiple charges, including attempted first-degree murder, attempted second-degree murder, simple battery, and illegal possession of a handgun by a juvenile, reported CNN.
Dauntain’s short-lived escape comes after a spate of similar incidents in recent weeks.
In Pennsylvania, Shane Pryor, a 17-year-old murder suspect, took off from a medical transport on Jan. 24 while being taken to a children’s hospital to be treated for a hand injury.
He was uncuffed when he bolted from the Emergency Room parking lot.
Pryor, who is suspected of killing a man in 2020 when he was just 14 years old, was busted five days later after getting off a bus in Philadelphia, police and the US Marshals Service said.
In Arkansas, Noah Roush, 22, and Jatonia Bryant, 23, were discovered missing 36 hours after their jailbreak on Jan. 22.
Roush, who faces burglary charges and is also a suspect in a homicide, was detained following a three-day manhunt. Bryant was captured on Jan. 29.
