Six people — including four children — were found dead in an upstate New York apartment complex late Tuesday.
Police were called to the Mechanicville home in Saratoga County for a welfare check around 6:20 p.m. when they made the tragic discovery.
Neighbors were concerned after they had not seen a resident of the Harris Avenue apartment for several days, according to Mechanicville police.
The victims’ ages and identities have not been released and the investigation remains ongoing.
The cause and manner of death are also still under investigation.
Police do not believe there is any threat to the public.
“This is a tragic incident that has deeply affected our community,” Chief of Police Bill Rabbitt said. “Our thoughts are with the family members, friends, and all those impacted by this loss.”
The chief told The Post Wednesday morning that it’s too soon to characterize the nature of the deaths.
“Because the autopsies are still underway and investigators are continuing to gather and verify information, I am not prepared to characterize this incident as a homicide, murder-suicide, or any other manner of death at this time,” Rabbitt wrote in a statement.
“The investigation remains active and ongoing,” he added.
The chief also confirmed that “none of the deceased children were infants,” adding that he couldn’t confirm any relationship between the deceased individuals.
A complex resident told NewsChannel 13 that she had not seen the family in several days.
The chief also confirmed that “none of the deceased children were infants,” adding that he couldn’t confirm any relationship between the deceased individuals.
“Very upsetting. Very upsetting. It’s, sorry, it’s just having a little guy and knowing that there’s just 4 little babies that are no longer with us, it’s very upsetting,” the neighbor told the outlet.
The Mechanicville City School District was reportedly making counselors available to students who were impacted by the tragedy.
Rabbit said his department, which is working with state police on the investigation, will provide more information as it becomes available.
