A horrific crash shuttered all northbound lanes on the 101 Freeway early Wednesday morning, killing a person and injuring another.
The smash was reported around 1:26 a.m. at Valley Circle Boulevard near Woodland Hills, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Video from the scene shows two mangled and wrecked cars with crash debris scattered all over the highway.
Firefighters were seen using the jaws of life to cut open the door of one car to retrieve a victim. The other victim died at the scene.
One victim, who appeared to be elderly, was shown conscious on a gurney being pushed into an ambulance. Their status is unclear, as is the identities of those involved.
The incident appeared to involve two separate crashes, including an initial two-vehicle collision followed by an additional vehicle striking those involved, according to reports.
The crash remains under investigation. A SigAlert for the lane closures was issued because of the crash.
Heavy congestion remained in the area of the crash later Wednesday morning. All lanes were reopened at about 5:10 a.m., according to CHP.
