“The NYPD is tracking the situation in the Middle East. Out of an abundance of caution, we’re deploying additional resources to Jewish, Israeli & other sites throughout NYC,” the department said in a statement posted on X.
“We’re coordinating with our federal partners & we’ll continue to monitor for any potential impact to NYC,” the NYPD added.
Israel launched an unprecedented wave of airstrikes across Iran on Friday targeting its nuclear facilities and other military sites — claiming Iran was fast-tracking the development of nuclear weapons.
The attacks, which are expected to significantly escalate conflict between the two bitter rivals, took out several of Iran’s top military leaders and nuclear scientists.
Israeli officials said they are anticipating a heavy retaliatory response from its Middle Eastern adversary.
Mayor Eric Adams has also been briefed on the situation and said the NYPD’s Counterterrorism Unit is “closely monitoring the situation.”
“I am praying for peace,” the mayor said.
