Off-duty NYPD cop shot, wounded in Astoria after being ambushed by 2 men in masks

Two men were taken into custody after alerts went out about a shooting at the intersection of 31st Road and 21st Street at about 6:30 a.m., where authorities found the 25-year-old officer suffering from a graze wound, sources told The Post.

An apple green BMW M4 coupe driven by the injured off-duty officer was spotted at the scene with a bullet hole in the front windshield.

The injured cop, who was not immediately identified, was taken to a nearby hospital and listed in stable condition.

Two suspects who were both wearing black clothing and blue surgical masks, fled the scene in a grey Nissan sedan, sources said.

Two men in a Nissan near the scene were later seen taken into custody.

Michelle Talton, 59, an usher at the Astoria Baptist Church near the shooting, said she was shocked by the senseless violence.

“It’s crazy,” she said of the shooting. “I think it’s terrible. It’s not safe anymore. This is not a common place for these kinds of things to happen.

“Anyone could have been hurt behind this. You see this every day. Stray bullets killing people,” Talton added.

“This area is supposed to be a safe place but I guess not. This is really bad. This is crazy,” said local resident Elizabeth Sanchez, 34, while walking by the crime scene.

The shooting took place outside a ShotSpotter zone, where acoustic sensors are placed to identify and locate gunfire.

This is a developing story. Check back later for more details.
