Nancy Guthrie was last seen Saturday around 9:30 p.m. at her residence in the Catalina Foothills area near Tucson, where officials found a “very concerning” scene, Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos said at a press conference Monday.
“She is very limited in her mobility. We know she didn’t just walk out of there. She did not leave on her own,” Pima County, Ariz., Sheriff Chris Nanos said.
“We believe now, after we process that crime scene, that we do, in fact, have a crime scene, that we do, in fact have a crime and we’re asking the community’s help.”
Authorities have been searching for the elderly matriarch since she was reported missing by her family late Sunday morning.
A church-goer had first called the family to say Nancy hadn’t shown up for services earlier that morning, and worried relatives then phoned the cops, officials said.
Her family had dropped her off at her million-dollar home just after 9:30 p.m. the night before.
Police said that Nancy was “of sound mind,” and “as sharp as a tack,” and added that they weren’t treating the disappearance as related to dementia or any other mental condition.
“The family wants everybody to know this isn’t somebody who just wandered off. Her physical limits are based on just age,” Nanos said.
Authorities are currently combing through security footage at the house, and asked local residents to look through their Ring camera video.
Nanos refused to say whether Nancy or Savannah had been the subject of threats recently.
He confirmed that Savannah has been in regular contact with authorities since her mom vanished.
