Trump blasts ‘misleading’ media reporting US tanker planes damaged by Iran

President Trump lambasted the media Saturday over reports that Iran struck five US refueling planes at a US base in Saudi Arabia.

Trump tore into an “intentionally misleading headline” and took on claims that the planes were no longer usable.

He ripped “terrible reporting” and “sick and demented people,” a day after Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth blasted headlines he said were critical of the Iran mission.

“In actuality, the Base was hit a few days ago, but the planes were not ‘struck’ or ‘destroyed,’” Trump wrote on his Truth Social account from West Palm Beach, Florida, where he traveled Friday.

He said four of the five had “virtually no damage” and are already back in service.

One had “slightly more damage, but will be in the air shortly.”

The Wall Street Journal reported Friday that five refueling tankers were struck during an Iranian missile strike on the Prince Sultan air base in Saudi Arabia.

It said they were damaged but not fully destroyed.

Trump’s post about the refueling tankers came a day after US Central Command confirmed the deaths of all six Americans aboard another refueling aircraft, a KC-135, that was flying over western Iraq.

Trump’s post called out the New York Times, the Journal, and what he called “lowlife ‘papers’” and media organizations that he said “actually want us to lose the war.”

Last week, Hegseth slammed the media for its reporting on the first US casualties in the war.

“But when a few drones get through or tragic things happen, it’s front-page news,” he complained. “I get it; the press only wants to make the president look bad. But try for once to report the reality.”

“They are truly sick and demented people that have no idea the damage they cause the United States of America,” Trump concluded in his post. “Fortunately, as proven by our Great and Conclusive Election Win in 2024, the People of our Country understand what is happening far better than the Fake News Media!”

On Thursday, Trump attacked veteran New York Times reporter Maggie Haberman, whom he communicated with frequently during his first term, referring to her as “maggot.”

“Maggot Hagerman, just another SLEAZEBAG writer for The Failing New York Times, insists on writing false stories about me, even though she fully knows and understands that the exact opposite of anything she says is usually the truth,” Trump posted.

He also suggested he was adding her to his $15 billion defamation lawsuit against the Times.
