Well-financed Dems look to oust Anti-Israel ‘Squad’ members Ilhan Omar, Cori Bush

Lefty “Squad” members in Congress are facing challenges from well-financed pro-Israel Dems looking to oust them from power over their inflammatory views about the Jewish state.

St. Louis County prosecutor Wesley Bell became the latest entrant into the field this week when he announced he would drop plans to challenge Missouri GOP Sen. Josh Hawley and instead aim his firepower on a primary with lefty Rep. Cori Bush.

“I think we have to stand with our allies, and Israel has always been an ally,” Bell said.

“As a country, we have to be reliable partners. We have to stand by our fellow democracies, and we have to stand against terrorism,” he told the Jewish Insider. “Hamas is a terrorist organization and I will not waver in my support for Israel.”

Last month Bush was one of just nine House Democrats who voted against a measure condemning Hamas after the terrorist organization killed roughly 1,400 people in the deadliest terrorist attack in Israeli history.

In recent days she has falsely accused Israel of “ethnic cleansing.”

Fellow Squad member Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) appears likely to be heading for a rematch with former Minneapolis city councilman Don Samuels, who told The Post he was weighing a race — citing Omar’s history of inflammatory anti-Israel statements.

“She does knee-jerk reactions to global events which require thoughtful and coordinated responses,” he said. “It’s a disconnection from the issues of her district. Those issues are public education, public safety, housing prices, affordable housing, and homelessness.”

Samuels challenged Omar in 2022 and came within a hair’s breadth of snatching the Democratic nomination.

New York Rep. Jamaal Bowman — fresh off misdemeanor charges for pulling a fire alarm in the House Cannon office building — is facing a potentially strong challenge from Westchester County Executive George Latimer.

“I have been asked to do it by people who are important and friends of mine. They have expressed an unhappiness with the incumbent over a lot of different issues. Israel is obviously very high on that list,” Latimer told The Post. “I am a strong supporter of Israel.”

Even Squad members not facing a serious primary, such as Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-Mich.), are feeling the heat.

On Thursday Democratic Majority for Israel, a nonprofit advocacy organization, launched a six-figure ad buy targeting her.

Even Squad members not facing a serious primary, such as Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-Mich.), are feeling the heat.

“Her legislation would allow the terrorists to re-arm themselves,” the ad warns Detroit voters.

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez faced a spirited primary challenge in 2020 from former CNBC anchor Michelle Caruso-Cabrera.
